Last week our team took a trip to out local Sainsburys to scope out what promotions are currently live. We were impressed with the sheet volume of campaigns that brands are pushing out at the moment, here is a look at some of my favourites!
My favourite prize pool
The Jolly Hog are a modern meat brand set up by 3 brothers from Bristol, and they are the first company in the UK to hold a B-Corp certification, meaning they hold the highest standards of social and environmental performance. They are currently offering a click to win promotion, with consumers having the chance to win a variety of prizes including a food hamper, a BBQ and the top prize of 100 of the winners’ family and friends being fed by their aptly named Miss Piggy food truck. The timing of this promotion is incredibly smart, food trucks are all the rage at the moment and I am yet to see another promotion offering a similar prize, All of the prizes have great synergy with the brand and it’s a generous prize pyramid that will be appealing to many new and existing customers.
My favourite mechanic
Of course, my favourite mechanic has to be an instant win! Soreen has created a promotion offering consumers the chance to win 1 of 10 family forest holidays worth £1,000 if you find the golden wrapped loaf in your promotional packet. There is also a prize draw for a further forest holiday worth £1,000 and every entrant gets £60 off a forest holiday. This is type of promotion is perfect for a fixed fee, with an uncapped number of entries having a £60 voucher, the liability on the brand is huge, Mando could take on this risk and all the liabilities by offering the brand a fixed fee and covering all redemptions. Soreen brand themselves as a lunchbox treat aimed at families and with a family-oriented prize, so we think an instant win was the perfect choice to get the whole family involved and excited about the possibility of winning.
My favourite on pack communication
I am sure we’ve all seen this one around, McVities Great Biscuit Break Bonanza. The bright golden stripe on their otherwise instantly recognisable packaging is eye catching and bound to draw attention on the shelf. And the range of prizes they are offering has earnt its golden status, all cleverly centered around breaks, from ‘a break from bills’ (£2,500 cash) to ‘your next biscuit break on us’ the whole campaign has great cohesion to the product.

My favourite all rounder
Sheba really hit the mark with their current win £1,000 promotion. With no purchase necessary, a pyramid of prizes (1,066 cash prizes to be exact) awarded by Winning Moments great eye-catching POS in store that can truly not be missed they are off to a great start. The entry route appeals to the hearts of cat owners across the country, asking them to upload a photo of their furry friend and explain the craziest things they have done to keep them happy, and going as far as offering a further £1,000 every two weeks in a judged competition to the most creative answer. We are sure they have seen a vast number of entries for what we hope was a successful campaign for them.
