Christmas is always the busiest time of year for sending cards and parcels, but in 2025, Royal Mail took the season to the next level with the Magical Card Prize Draw promotion.
Developed and managed by the team at Mando, we delivered Joy with Royal Mail with a campaign that combined festive excitement with an engaging mechanic requiring a stamp, to drive stamp sales and celebrate the joy of sending Christmas cards to loved ones at Christmas.
What Was the Magical Prize Draw?
The Royal Mail Magical Card Prize Draw was a nationwide consumer promotion running throughout the Christmas mailing period. Customers who purchased the 2025 Christmas stamps were invited to enter an online prize draw for the chance to win a share of £525,000.
The mechanic was focused on nominating the recipient of the Christmas card to share with prize. Customers visited the microsite and uploaded a photo of the front of their Christmas card envelope featuring a 2025 stamp and the word ‘magical’ hand-written on. Within the form, entrants supplied their contact details and the name and details of their recipient.
The concept was built around the magic of Christmas post: the excitement of sending cards, the anticipation of deliveries, and the nostalgia associated with traditional mail. By linking stamp purchases with the chance to win cash prizes, the promotion created a compelling additional reason for consumers to choose physical Christmas cards and letters.
The Prize Pool
The £525,000 prize pot was split across daily prize draws throughout December. Ranging from £100 to £100,000, each of the 1,054 prizes were split between the entrant and their nominated recipient of the Christmas post. The high number of prizes offered consumers a high perceived chance of winning and daily draws meant consumer could keep coming back to participate.
Driving Stamp Sales During the Festive Peak
The campaign was strategically timed to coincide with the peak Christmas mailing window, when households across the UK are buying stamps to send seasonal greetings and spread Joy with Royal Mail.
Consumers were not just sending a regular Christmas card, they were unlocking the opportunity to win and potentially gifting their loved one up to £50,000.
This promotion was designed to encourage:
- Higher purchase intent among consumers already planning to send cards
- Increased basket sizes, as customers could purchase multiple stamp books for additional entries
- Stronger engagement with Royal Mail products during a key seasonal period
We limited entries to 5 per person per day and 1 prize per sender over the duration of the promotion to ensure a fair chance of winning.
The TV ad and promotional messaging ensured the campaign was front of mind for shoppers, while the digital entry platform provided a seamless experience that connected physical purchases with online engagement.
Spreading the Reach
The opportunity to win cash spreads far and wide organically but to increase awareness, Royal Mail featured real winners on their socials. When contacting winners, we encouraged as many as possible to agree to participate in PR. Those who were happy to, were visited by Royal Mail’s team and appeared on social media receiving a giant cheque. This gained online attention and participation grew as the campaign went on.
