Big Screen, Bigger Rewards

WRITTEN BY:

The first commercial cinema started presenting moving pictures in December 1895, Paris. Since then, it has been nurtured into a form of entertainment well loved by all ages across the globe. As a child I remember sneaking shop bought snacks into the cinema and making the most of my whole family being able to go to enjoy a film for around £20. It’s well known that these days a single person would be lucky to get into the cinema with a snack for less than that. Brands seem to have picked up on this and cinema deals (an already big hit) are becoming an increasingly popular reward in promotions and loyalty schemes.

4 in every 5 people that visit the cinema once a week are more likely to try a new brand if they offer a promotion, so no wonder some of the biggest brands have seen the value in these types of rewards.

Here are some of our favourite campaigns:

  • Orange Wednesdays

Kicking off in 2003, Orange Wednesdays was a beacon for cinema ticket rewards, offering 2 for 1 cinema tickets to all users. There was little more exciting than arranging to go to the cinema with your friends and finding out they have Orange Wednesdays, halving the price of your tickets. A midweek cinema trip was practically unheard of before this promotion but it had us flocking to our local screens in hoards. It led the way for some even stronger campaigns which have provided even more value with the growing cost of cinema tickets and, in some instances, providing two completely free tickets.

  • Meerkat Movies

Following in their footsteps we have the beloved Meerkats. We are all familiar with them, kids love them (I love them) and their Orange inspired 2 for 1 cinema tickets are a great hit, elevated even more so as they offer this on Tuesdays as well as Wednesdays.

O2 and Virgin Media customers are getting even more value, with 2 cinema tickets for £9 at Vue cinemas. £4.50 per ticket is something most people under 20 won’t remember, but the value of this loyalty reward is undeniable.

It’s not only entertainment companies recognising the value in cinema rewards, the supermarkets are catching on too with Tesco doubling Clubcard points to be put towards cinema ticket purchases at Cineworld and Lidl offering 40% off a group of cinema chains.

  • Sky Cinema – 2 Free VUE Tickets Every Month

Upping the ante just a tad we have the newest, most widely advertised cinema rewards campaign (probably ever) with Sky. From their high-impact TV ad starring brand ambassador Idris Elba, to influencers, social media posts and banners at football games, they are committed to getting the word out there about the incredibly generous offer they are keen for their customers to take advantage of. Sky cinema customers are offered 2 free cinema tickets every month for a year. If customers were to redeem these each month they could be enjoying £100’s worth of the thrills of the big screen, an experience everyone should get to enjoy. It really does take cinema promotions to the next level and has been gratefully received by Sky customers, as well as tempting new clients to switch to Sky to make the most of the reward.
